Welcome to my Blog!

I'm Lauren, a Boulder, Colorado portrait photographer.

The last several years of my life have been marked by a little bit of serendipity.  After bouncing around the country (and the world), three years ago I moved to Boulder on a whim.  I planned to stay for just a summer, but the sunny Boulder weather, abundant hiking, and delicious micro-brews won me over immediately. Meeting my now-husband, Tony, in a local margarita bar also provided pretty good motivation to stay put.  Last year while planning our wedding, I looked at hundreds of wedding photography websites.  Six months after the wedding,  I found myself still looking at those websites, investing in a fancy camera, taking photography classes, and now starting this blog.

Right now I am still learning how to take good photos and building my portfolio. I am not accepting any paying clients.  However, if you're interested in having me take some pictures, shoot me an email.

I hope you enjoy the website!

Jon, Barb, and Juliette; Josh and Kana

Last weekend was full of picture taking.  Before we went to the farm, we met up with some friends in downtown Boulder.  When I decided that I wanted to actively pursue photography,  I emailed a few local friends and asked begged and pleaded with them if I could please practice on their families.  Although I think I’m pretty good for someone who has only been taking pictures for a month, I’m definitely not ready to accept actual paying clients, so my friends must act as my guinea pigs.

Fortunately, I have very patient (and photogenic) friends, so hopefully you’ll see their shining faces gracing this blog for several months to come.  Unfortunately, the weather in Boulder wasn’t too great on Saturday, so we didn’t get to spend too much time playing.

Jon and Barb kindly agreed to be my subjects this weekend. I first met both of them when I moved to Boulder a couple years ago, and I’m really lucky that I can call them friends. They are both just really cool people who are passionate about life and each other.   Jon’s newly married brother Josh was also in town for the weekend, with his new wife Kana.  It was a real family affair.

Josh and Kana were so sweet with each other.

I love this shot, you can’t tell whether she’s going to kiss him, or whisper sweet nothings in his ear.

There are some really cool walls in Boulder.

Juliette is Jon and Barb’s daughter.  She’s such a pretty girl, and you can definitely tell her how much her parents adore her.

happy family

Only a little over a year old, and she’s already fierce.

One of the things that I love about Jon and Barb is that they really show how you can have children, and yet still maintain a life outside of being parents.  One of my favorites from the day, here they are proving that the romance doesn’t die.

Thanks guys, for being my guinea pigs.  I can’t wait til we can get outside in some nice weather and shoot!

April 30, 2009 - 11:17 pm Jenna - Even though it's strange to start charging people out of nowhere (I mean, how do you decide what to charge? It's definitely not easy), I think it's important to remember that people are choosing to pay you based on your previous work. So I think it's definitely important to shoot for free for a little while to build up your portfolio, but after you have a certain amount of work built up, go ahead and set some prices and see who is willing to pay that much. Your market value is really a combination of what you think you are worth, and what your clients are willing to pay for your services. Don't be afraid to let those people book who love your work and would like to hang some of it on their wall.
